Open Day

Jul 16, 2023, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Step out of the city and back in time… at Brisbane’s oldest surviving residential farmhouse around 16km Southwest of the Brisbane CBD, at Wacol.

Part of the Brisbane Open House enjoy a self-guided tour of Wolston Farmhouse and it’s surrounding gardens. Take in the surrounds whilst enjoying a coffee.

It was the first property to be taken care of by the National Trust of Australia (Queensland) and now welcomes visitors through its doors each year.

Share a glimpse into the Early Settler’s way of life, when you tour this 19th Century rural gem. Learn about the past residents of Wolston Farmhouse and the influential roles they had in the evolution of Brisbane. It’s a pioneer’s powerhouse.

The Heritage-listed homestead has six rooms, all displaying artefacts from its original era, including personal items belonging to the original owners and a horse hair mattress in the bedroom.

The larder, a meat room, and the Maid’s quarters with a scullery are all in the cellars – the air is cooler down there, and noises can be heard along with the temperature change; there might be some paranormal activity too!

Admire the picturesque views from the veranda and you cannot miss the beautiful old Fig Tree that’s been standing for over 168 years and is part of National Trust’s Significant Trees.
